Consumer Behavior - Eyewear and Sunwear

The Vision Council can provide statistics, trends in how, why and where people are purchasing prescription eyeglasses, readers, and sunwear through our VisionWatch research surveys.  Here are a few of the many statistics we track annually:

  • 1.7 million Americans in the 35-44 age group wear corrective eyeglasses.
  • More than 28 million adults wear reading glasses-that's approximately 11.9 percent of the entire U.S. adult population.
  • Eighty five percent of adults believe it is just as important to protect the eyes from UV rays as it is to protect the skin.
